“Louie will be an all-around ride for the crew at RO-NO Ranch, and will also be a great packing and driving mule. Currently I use him as my clinic mount when teaching Mounted Shooting Clinics. He entered his first Futurity Classes this past weekend at the Vernon Brothers Classic at Garwood in Ohio.”

Anyone who knows Nola, KNOWS her love and dedication to her horses, and her Mules. This is so exciting to see, and look forward to seeing more. We have a video Nola sent as well. Standby for that!

In 2021, I began looking for my next mounted shooting partner. However, between building a house and a farm, as well as planning my wedding, there wasn’t much left in my budget. This is when my trainer, Jessie Flores, encouraged me to find a young horse I could compete in the futurity with rather than one that was finished. Less than a year before the Futurity, I found “SL Raise the Bar,” aka Otis.⁠

Otis was started when I bought him, but I took on the challenge of finishing him and gun-breaking him myself. Due to a demanding work schedule, I could only get Otis to one-weekend shoot and two small day shoots before the futurity. This required me to consistently work with him, take every chance I got to take him to Rusted Star Ranch for coaching, and haul him to any other game shows I could find to get him exposure. ⁠

Fast forward to the Futurity, and my horse gave me five clean and consistent runs. I came out of the arena on stage 5 with a big smile on my face and even bigger sense of accomplishment. Although his exposure was limited during the year I had him, I realized I had still earned his trust, and we even won a paycheck! All those long hours in the saddle had paid off, and this horse would be my sole shooting partner for hopefully, years to come. Although I loved the futurity for many reasons, my favorite part about it, was the process of it all; it was an adventure of a year that I will never forget!⁠

The level of maturity that has developed in the young horses from the Futurity/Derby in the last 6 months is fantastic. So many solid, quick, and dependable 5-year-olds is amazing. Having a horse with the same grit and determination as its rider raises the level of excitement when running and gunning in the arena. ⁠

- When I began looking for another teammate, I knew I wanted to train my own. I found four-month-old Reckless and instantly had a connection. Discovering the CMSA Futurity program immediately put goals into how I wanted to proceed with his training. ⁠

Well, where I have gotten in life has nothing to do with luck! It has to do with determination, discipline, Belief, and doing things each and every day even when I don’t feel like it!

I encourage everyone to look inside themselves and acknowledge their true gift, not necessarily your passion but your gift…..
How you know what you are gifted at is the one thing that comes so easily for you and you do it well!

I feel I have been gifted with the ability to train horses in a different way then others. It comes easy for me, I love it, and my horses respond in a beautiful way 🦄🦄
