2023 CMSA Futurity Open Champion

Updated: Aug 3

Brett Borkowski & Dasha Latte Angel Muffin

Why were you successful in the 2023 Futurity?

Our success in 23 starts with my wife Amy’s breeding program. We believe that mare power plays a very important role when it comes to producing winners. Angel Muffin is an embryo transfer foal out of the mare Frenchmans Moon Dash that I won the World's on in 2021. The similarities between mother and daughter made it relatively easy to fully trust her, no matter the pattern or how fast we needed to run it.

The foundation Rodney Yost and Amy put on her was another key to our success. Knowing that she had everything needed to succeed in place before she was ever on a shooting pattern makes a huge difference.

What advice would you give to future competitors?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Especially when it comes to horses. We’re more than willing to help with pedigrees or training issues.

Whether at the Futurity or a small local shoot, know your horse and do right by it. Don’t push too hard or change what has been working just because of who’s riding next to you.

What are you most excited about as it relates to Cowboy Mounted Shooting??

I’m excited to see the growth of the aged events in mounted shooting. The dedication of the futurity is showing and greatly appreciated!
