Eric Sanders and Hancocks Bud Dash
Why were you successful in the 2023 Futurity?
First and foremost I believe I was successful in the futurity simply due to the amount of time and effort that was put in by Stetson and myself. I don't believe there is a good replacement for the time and the miles we put on these young horses. That mixed in with the incredible support of my friends and family specifically my mother and also my coach and mentor Courtney Chapman and too many others to name.
What advice would you give to future competitors?
The best advice I could give to anyone wanting to try their hand at the futurity program would be to work at it as much as you possibly can. With horses as with everything you only get out of it what you're willing to put in. With that being said try not to take it to seriously. Have fun and remember why we do this, you don't want to put too much pressure on yourself or a youngster and make them sour or run them into the ground. When it comes time for the futurity itself remember to be confident in yourself and your horse and just ride your ride and don't worry about anything else.
What are you most excited for in the future as it relates to Cowboy Mounted Shooting?
I am very excited about the future of the sport as a whole as well as the futurity program and am looking forward to participating for years to come. It seems the futurity and the sport as a whole is growing and I'm excited to see where it goes.
