CMSA Futurity and Derby Rules

The rules for our event are straightforward; please familiarize yourself with them.

Open CMSA Futurity Rules

CMSA Open Futurity Rules 1.Entry Fee, Fees and Payouta.Entry fee for the Open Futurity will be $500 per horse. A drug testing fee will be added to the entry fee each year.b.There will be an 80% payback on entry fees and the payback will follow CMSA rules.c.Any added money will be paid to the top 3 places as follows: 50% for 1st place, 30% for 2nd place and 20% for 3rd place.d.70 % of the Stallion Incentive Program money will be added to the final purse for the offspring of the stallions that are participating and place in the futurity in the first five spots. We will pay top three places as follows; 50% for 1st place, 30% for 2nd place and 20% for 3rd. place. If none of the offspring place in the first five spots in the Futurity, the money will roll over to the next year.e.The Stallion Incentive Program purse will pay 100% to the winning offspring of the stallions that are enrolled in and have paid into the Stallion Incentive Program that year, between the Open and the Non-Pro classes.f.The stallions that are enrolled in the Stallion Incentive Program will get 10% of the purse that his offspring win in the CMSA Futurity (example: if a horse wins $5000 in the Futurity, whoever enrolled the stallion will receive a $500 check).g.The Stallion Incentive Fee consists of the following levels.Gold Level - $1200 due by March 15th each year.Silver Level - $1000 due by July 31st each year.Bronze Level - $900 due by July 31st each year.Late fee to enroll Stallions after July 31st -$1500Please contact Jamie Travis @ 641-344-6228 for Stallion level information.2.Horse Eligibilitya.Registered 4-year-old horses of any breed can compete. b. Registration papers are required to prove the age and markings of the horse. A COLOR copy of the front and back of the registration papers must be provided and the horses will be checked prior to entering the arena before every stage. The registration papers must have a photo and/or drawing of the horse’s markings on the front or back of the registration papers. c. Futurity horses CAN NOT show in any Mounted shooting competition before January 1st of their 4-year old year. Only exhibition rides will be permitted before their 4-year-old year. d. Horses are limited to one entry, either Non-Pro or Open Futurity class, not both. e. There is a limit of three horses per rider in the CMSA Futurity class. f. The format and location of the CMSA Futurity will be announced at least three months prior the event. g. The horse and rider are entered as a team. Horse or rider cannot be changed after entries are finalized. 3. There is no gender or senior split in the Open CMSA Futurity Class. 4. Any kind of performance enhancing and/or calming drugs are prohibited in the Futurity. We will follow AQHA’s drug testing standards. All horses that place in the Futurity will be tested. 5. Misconduct Rule - Abusive language or conduct shall not be tolerated in or out of the arena by any competitor, spectator, or related party. At the discretion of the Futurity board match director, the competitor, spectator, or related party shall be given a warning. A second offence will result in a five-year suspension from participation in the CMSA Futurity and Derby events. 6. All other rules will follow CMSA rules. If any of the applicable rules are broken, there will be a FIVE-YEAR suspension of that rider and/or owner participating in the CMSA Futurity and the CMSA Derby. Rules revised 3/2023

Open CMSA Derby Rules

The definition of competed is that the horse, at a minimum, completed the course of fire in the CMSA Futurity for at least one stage. b.Registration papers are required to prove the age and markings of the horse. Horse’s name and registration number must match exactly to the CMSA Futurity roster from the prior year’s CMSA Futurity class. A COLOR copy of the front and back of the registration papers must be provided and the horses will be checked prior to entering the arena before every stage. The registration papers must have a photo or drawing of the horse’s markings on the back or front of the registration papers. c.Eligibility for the CMSA Derby follows the horse, not the rider. Non-Pro CMSA Futurity Rules

Any added money will be paid to the top 3 places as follows: 50% for 1st place, 30% for 2nd place & 20% for 3rd place. d. 30% of the Stallion IncenCve Program will be added to the final purse for the offspring of the stallions that are parCcipaCng and place i n the futurity in the first five spots. We will pay top three places as follows; 50% for 1st place, 30% for 2nd place and 20% for 3rd place. e. The Stallion IncenCve Program purse will pay 100% to the winning offspri ng of the stallions that are enrolled in and have paid into the Stallion IncenCve Program that year, between the Open and the Non-Pro classes. f. Horse or rider cannot be changed after entries are finalized. 3. Rider Qualifications for Non-Pro Eligibility for the CMSA Non-Pro Futurity. a. Applicant must be a CMSA Level 4 or less. If applicant was ever a Level 5 or 6 rider, applicant must wait 3 consecutive CMSA competition seasons before being eligible for the Non-Pro class. b. The rider cannot have more than two wins in the Double Down AA and AAA divisions, Open Eliminator, Open Senior Incentive, or AQHA World Open, Select Amateur, Open Youth, or Open Amateur classes at a CMSA major event in the past two years. c. As a condition for the issuance of non-pro card, the applicant, and/or the family member who actually owns the horse with which the applicant will participate, agrees to provide, upon request, any documentation or other proof as requested for eligibility. d. If a rider qualifies as a Non-pro, but prefers to enter up to the Open Class, that is allowed. e. Applicant cannot have within the past 3 calendar years: i. Shown, judged, trained or assisted in training a horse for remuneration, monetary or otherwise, either directly or indirectly. ii. Payment of entry fees and/or expenses by anyone other than the applicant or the applicants “Immediate Family” as defined herein. iii. Instructed another person in riding, driving, training, or showing a horse for remuneration, monetary or otherwise, either directly or indirectly. iv. Shown, trained, or assisted in the training of a horse for which an immediate family member accepts remuneration, monetary or otherwise, either directly or indirectly, for such services. v. Held membership accreditation with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, Women’s Professional Rodeo Association, International Professional Rodeo Association, or any other professional rodeo association. vi. Been a member of the American Quarter Horse Association of Professional Horsemen or the CMSA Professional Horseman. vii. The applicant may not be a sponsored rider and/or hold a Pro card with CMSA or any other professional organization. An applicant is considered sponsored if applicant receives monetary, product, or discount-based compensation for promotion of a product or service of which they do not hold majority ownership. 4. There is no gender or senior split in the Non-Pro CMSA Futurity class. 5. Any kind of performance enhancing and/or calming drugs are prohibited in the Futurity. We will follow AQHA’s drug testing standards. All horses that place in the Futurity will be tested. 6.
